Ida B. Wells-Barnett Birthday Gala 2016
The 20th annual Ida B. Wells-Barnett Birthday Gala was held Saturday, July 16, 2016, in Holly Springs, Mississippi, to celebrate what would have been her 154th birthday. Wells-Barnett was born in Holly Springs on July 16, 1862. Approximately 300 guests gathered with Wells-Barnett’s descendants at the Shaw Cafeteria on the campus of Rust College to celebrate the life and legacy of the historic pioneer for racial and gender equality.
Dr. Shennette Garrett-Scott, assistant professor of history and of African-American studies at the University of Mississippi, was the speaker. The event was hosted by the Ida B. Wells-Barnett Museum.
